Background
People
The Duke of York was responsible for many colonies. He was held responsible for the naming of New York and was highly thought of for that reason. As a high admiral, the Duke of York was anxious to have the ability to make the title for a new colony. Jonas Salk was born in 1914. He was a New York doctor who invented the first effective vaccine against Polio. He was important to the safety of the people in the colony. Before his death, he also attempted to find the cure for cancer.
Religious Affiliations & Implications
Like other Middle Colonies, New York saw a mixture of Quakers, Catholics, Jews, and more. New York was uniquely situated between the Puritans of New England and the Catholics of Maryland. Although there were many religions, Protestantism is said to be the most popular.
Economics
Exported agriculture products as well as iron products were used in the profit making process. The iron makings included: plows, tools, kettles, locks, nails, and large iron blocks. All of the iron products were shipped to England in order to maintain a stable economy. Farms were also essential to products with 150 acres of land, a house, barn, and crops.
