Background
New Jersey was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkeley and Sir George Carteret; it became a Royal Colony in 1702. New Jersey was founded because Carteret and Berkeley offered people land and religious freedom. Princeton is one of its most important settlements. New Jersey is located on the northeastern Atlantic coastline.

People
Lord John Berkely was an English royalist soldier. In 1648, he was close to the Duke of York. This meant that due to the Duke being in some troubles, Lord Berkely would step in and take over New Jersey to help it thrive. Sir George Cataret was in close relations with John Berkely. He was an original Lord Proprietor of New Jersey. He played a huge role in New Jersey where the town Cataret was named before his death in 1680.
Religious Affiliations & Implications
People in New Jersey were Catholics and Protestants. A variety of religions was practiced in the colony. In fact, by 1701 New Jersey had 45 distinct congregations. Not many people could afford the prices of building churches so worship was typically held in a barn.
Economics
The economy in New Jersey was similar to that of New York. Both exported agricultural products and made iron supplies to sell to England.
