Background
The last of the colonies was Georgia, founded in 1732 by James Edward Oglethorpe. It became a Royal Colony twenty years later. Georgia was founded for plantations. Its climate and location made farming a necessity. Savannah was one of Georgia's principal settlements. Georgia was one of the Southern colonies, located on the Atlantic coast.

People
King George II is the king that Georgia was named after. This was because he was the king that granted the people of his reign to go to America in order to make Georgia happen. Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe. James Oglethorpe was in the British army, but soon after his father died he began to think all about the people and how to help. In doing this, he founded Georgia as a way to start over with a fresh beginning that was helpful to the people of the colony.
Religious Affiliations & Implications
Georgia was a place of religious tolerance and religious pluralism. Georgia's Royal Charter provided liberty for all, and for the free exercise of religion by all except Roman Catholics.
Economics
Crops that helped to support the colony included corn, tobacco, rice, and vegetables. The large population of slaves also helped the economy and keeping it strong and thriving.

Modern Connections
Georgia is still big on peaches and the export of agricultural goods. The United States recognizes Georgia as the Peach State.
